Self-explore garden visitation

Explore our world

While Hatley Castle is the centerpiece of the majestic estate, there's so much more to self-explore at Hatley Park: gorgeous Japanese, Italian, and Rose formal gardens that follow Edwardian design; 15km of walking and hiking trails through old-growth forest; a protected migratory bird sanctuary; a historic First Nations' site; and a spectacular view of the Juan de Fuca Strait. You'll find everything that makes the West Coast unforgettable only 25 minutes from downtown Victoria.

Royal Roads University is pleased to extend complimentary garden access to our community to provide access for everyone to enjoy the beauty of the gardens.  Please note, restricted areas may apply.

Access to the formal gardens will be permitted through the Garden Booth during daily operational hours 10 am to dusk.

Note: To protect our formal gardens, we do not permit dogs in the gated garden areas.

Commercial photography sessions may be requested by filling out and emailing us the photography request form.  Approval will be provided three weeks prior to the requested date to ensure no conflicting university activities. A fee of $300 will need to be paid to secure your booking.

The session provides a commercial photographer and his clients access to the formal gardens for up to 1.5 hours. Please note there are no inside privileges to Hatley Castle.
